If I get the green card, I don´t want to quit my current job in Colombia until I get a really good job in the US. Is this okay? I can handle to stay at least 6 months in the US each year, keeping my current job in Colombia at the same time. Also, I can apply to a sabbatical year in my current job, which I can spend at the US. Also, I can take other steps to maintain permanent residency, such as buying an apartment in the US.
Sounds good. Once your I-140 is approved you will apply for your green card through consular processing (CP) at a US consulate in Colombia. Once you successfully complete CP you will be issued an immigrant visa. You must enter the US within 6 months of being issued the immigrant visa. Once you enter the US, USCIS will mail your green card to the US address provided at your consular interview or at the US border.
Once you receive your green card you are a permanent resident of the US.
