Can I travel while my I-485 is pending?
Yes.
If you are on a valid H or L status, you can travel with your passport, visa stamps, and I-485 receipt notices.
If you are not in the US on H or L status or your visa will expire during the I-485 process, then you must obtain Advance Parole prior to leaving the US. To obtain Advance Parole, you need to file the I-131 form with supporting documents. It generally takes 1-3 months to have Advance Parole approved. Traveling without Advance Parole after filing the I-485, USCIS may consider your I-485 as abandoned and deny your I-485 without refunding your filing fees.
