Are J1 visa applicants supposed to file I-485 after I-140 approval?
Some J visas are subject to the INA 212(e) two year home country physical presence requirements. So, if your J-1 visa is subject to this requirement, you must either satisfy this requirement or get a J-waiver before you will be eligible to file the I-485 for adjustment of status. But, the restriction will not affect your I-140. It only comes into play at the stage of filing the I-485!
